Many BlackBerry addicts are into themes and applications as soon as RIM roles out a new device. Curve 8900 Javelin is one of them, and I own one. Its an awesome devices in RIM?s Curve line ups. I usually Google for themes and am ready to grab a one that?s for free šŸ™‚ who isn?t right? So, I finally found some awesome (free) themes by this crackberry (CB) user called as MrTolles. Man should I say he creates one of the awesome themes I have come across. There are many I am sure, but today I am going to review his theme which he specially created for me on request for 8900 Curve a.k.a Javelin.
The theme is called ?Precision White Today with Hidden Dock (Scrollable)?

The theme consists of 3 Calendar and 3 Messages on the home screen and 8 crisp clear icons on the Home Screen (6 at the bottom and 2 on the left and right top corners). The bottom dock consists of extra 6 icons when you scroll to the right. Awesome! which makes the Home Screen icons to 8 + 6 = 14. Now I love that!
Here is first screen shot. The wallpapers are mine šŸ™‚

The top left icon (in this case the Google Mobile App) is customizable. You can even have the weather icon on the left. The top right corner icon is the dedicated profiles icon.
In the IMG 1.2 and 1.3 below you can see that the bottom dock consists on 12 scrollable icons. The dock can be hidden when one scrolls up or moves focus away from the dock by scrolling up.

The application screen?s 1st icon will be the top left icon on the home screen as you can see in above images and image 1.7 below.
From icon # 2 until icon # 13 will be the dock icons. Icon # 2 thru # 7 it will be the first set of docked icons and icon # 8 thru # 13 will be the remaining 6 icons of the home screen when scrolled to the right. Isn?t it awesome?

The screen dialog boxes are the original and screen fonts are user customizable! See IMG 1.8 below. I love when user have the control over the fonts! I HATE! when the fonts are not changeable. All the themes developer should keep in mind that what looks pretty to them, specially FONTS may not be mesmerizing for the general public :)  But thanks to MrTolles @ CrackBerry he has kept the fonts intact and can be changed as per users need and NOT Theme forced!

LINQ Pocket Reference: Snippet 1 May 6, 2009

LINQ or Language Integrated Query allows you to write structures type safe-queries over local object collections and remote data sources. Introduced in .NET 3.5, it (LINQ) lets you query any collection implementing IEnumerable<>, whether an array, list, XML DOM, or remote data source.

LINQ offers the benefits of both compile-time type checking and dynamic query composition.

Base units of LINQ are sequences and elements.

A sequence is any object that implements the IEnumerable<> interface. Now the element is each item in the sequence.

Ex:

string[] names = { ā€œApplesā€, ā€œOrangesā€, ā€œGrapesā€ };

Such a sequence is called a local sequence, because it represents a local collection of objects in memory.

A query operator is a method that transforms a sequence.

A query is an expression that transforms sequences with query operators. For instance we can apply the ā€˜Whereā€™ operator on a simple array to extract those whose length is at least 7 characters long.

Ex:

string[] names = { ā€œApplesā€, ā€œOrangesā€, ā€œGrapesā€ };

IEnumerable<string> filteredNames = System.Linq.Enumerable.Where (names, n => n.length >= 7);

foreach (string n in filteredNames) { Console.Write (n + ā€œ|ā€); }

Output: Oranges

The above data and examples are courtesy of LINQ Pocket Reference by Joseph Albahari and Ben Albahari @ Oā€™Reilly Ā®

More snippets to follow soon, along with working examples and links.

Microsoft and Verizon reportedly cooking up an iPhone competitor April 28, 2009

Just what the world needs Another iPhone killer. If the Wall Street Journal’s report is to be believed, it looks like that USA Today story may have omitted a relatively important detail regarding Verizon’s “iPhone” offering it might not be an iPhone at all. Citing an apparently different group of “people familiar with the matter,” the Journal indicates that Big Red is currently in talks with Microsoft regarding a project with the codename “Pink”. Pink will be a Microsoft-designed iPhone rival with a multimedia focus and, undoubtedly, a big touchscreen. According to the report, Microsoft’s iPhone-alike will also feature a tweaked version of the Windows Mobile OS with “new software capabilities.” While Microsoft is said to be involved with the design of the phone, a third party will build it. What do you think guys can Pink possibly tide you over until an LTE iPhone drops? Thanks, Mark! Read

RHex: Free Donationware Tetris/Dr Mario Hybrid Game April 28, 2009

Dan sent in a link to a new free game from CrucialSoft called RHex. The best way I can describe this game is kind of like a mix between Tetris and Dr Mario. If you have a better description let me know in the comments. The game is available for the Storm, Bold, & 8900 Curve but sadly only has a desktop install right now. Older devices will supposedly work with the Bold/Curve build but may not look right. I emailed the developer asking for an OTA install so hopefully we will have that shortly. The developer is also asking for donations if you like the game. Let me know what you think or check out the video below for some gameplay:
